Speaker of Singapore Parliament To Visit Parliament This Week
A parliamentary delegation led by the Speaker of the Singaporean Parliament, Hon Abdullah Tarmugi, will visit Parliament this week Dr The Rt Hon Lockwood Smith, Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives, announced today.
Speaker Abdullah will be accompanied by three Singaporean members of Parliament, Ms Ellen Lee MP, Mr Vikram Nair MP and Mr Patrick Tay MP, who have a keen interest in New Zealand:
“The New Zealand and Singaporean Parliaments share a common unicameral Westminster-style system, and this visit will provide an opportunity to examine how the New Zealand Parliament works in relation to Singaporean system,” Dr Smith said.
The visit to Parliament will include a call on the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Dr The Rt Hon Lockwood Smith as well as meetings with the Party Whips, and the New Zealand-Singapore Parliamentary Friendship Group.
“The visit will also be of value in assisting the broader bilateral relationship”, Dr Smith added.
The Singaporean parliamentary delegation will participate in a roundtable discussion with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ministry of Defence and NZ Trade and Enterprise.
