John Key: Zero Leadership

John Key: Zero Leadership

Monday 2nd April 2012

“A zero budget means only one thing; zero hope” says MANA leader Hone Harawira.

“At a time when people in need desperately need all the support they can get, John Key tells them not to come knocking on the door of government departments who are supposed to help. Key’s message is clear – stuff the poor. Record numbers of homeless people are sleeping in their cars and garages and yet he is turning Housing NZ into a 0800 number. Power prices are being increased by ten percent with thousands of New Zealand households having their power cut off and yet he still thinks that privatising our energy companies is a good idea. It will push prices even higher, not keep them down. He is a man without a heart and a social consciousness”.

“We have a saying in Te Ao Maori; “What is the most important thing in the world? It is people! It is people! It is people!” For Key the most important thing in the world is money. He has lost sight of the fact that he is there to serve the people including our most vulnerable in society. Key’s announcement regarding having a zero budget for the second year in a row confirms that we are following austerity measures that have been introduced in Europe. That will also mean that this government will use the threat of our economy going belly-up to make further cuts that will hurt the poor. Brace yourselves people – worse news is just around the corner”.
