Young parliamentarians to
learn first-hand about American political
process
A group of six young New Zealand parliamentarians have the great opportunity to strengthen their understanding of democratic principles and develop their knowledge of international relations on an upcoming visit to the United States of America.
On Sunday 15 April 2012 the delegation will travel to America for a 14-day exchange programme coordinated by the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL).
Led by National MP Nikki Kaye, the delegation includes National MP Simon O’Connor and Labour MPs Chris Hipkins and Megan Woods. Apirana Dawson from the NZ First Whip’s office and Alex Smith, Political Director for the Green Party are also included in the delegation.
This programme offers an opportunity for delegates to gain an in-depth knowledge about American governance, politics, bilateral relations and culture.
Through extensive meetings and events, the delegates will meet with elected officials, election experts, business and community leaders providing the chance to strengthen their political and public policy knowledge.
Delegations usually include seven to nine young political leaders aged 25-40 who are selected on their current roles and potential for future achievement.
The delegation arrives back in New Zealand on 29 April 2012.
