John Key running scared on contest of ideas
John Key is running scared after being exposed in the televised leaders’ debates for his lack of new ideas, says Labour Leader David Cunliffe.
“Labour was approached by TVNZ to extend the scheduled debate next Wednesday to a full hour. We were happy to agree to their request, but National rejected it.
“Voters deserve every opportunity to learn about the clear choice in this election.
“Unfortunately TeamKey has ruled this out. New Zealanders will be disappointed.
“I have a vision for a fairer, better, smarter, wealthier New Zealand. Labour has a fully-costed and integrated plan to achieve this.
“John Key started the first TVNZ debate by saying ‘elections are a contest of ideas’. Now he is running from that contest.
“His one big idea seems to be his imaginary ‘maybe-maybe-not-half-a block-of-cheese-in-three-years’-time tax cut’,’’ said David Cunliffe.
“Is John Key running for cover because his Finance Minister Bill English admitted last week the National Party doesn’t have any fresh ideas?’’
