PM must stop making excuses for offensive MP

John Key must stop dismissing the highly offensive behaviour of his Pakuranga MP Maurice Williamson and publically reprimand him, Labour’s spokesperson for Woman Sue Moroney says.

“Maurice Williamson’s behaviour at an Eagle Technology dinner was completely unacceptable.

“Not only were his jokes sexist, they were homophobic – from a man who was praised internationally for his ‘big gay rainbow’ comment during the marriage equality debate.

“This is not the first time Maurice Williamson has used highly offensive humour and he should have learnt by now.

“Where is Minister for Women Louise Upston on this? Maurice Williamson’s comments were offensive enough for Eagle Technology to apologise to its guests.

“Instead of dismissing his MP as ‘flamboyant’ John Key should condemn his toxic comments and demand a full public apology,” Sue Moroney says.
