Statutes Amendment Bill

Statutes Amendment Bill

The Chairperson of the Government Administration Committee is inviting submissions on the Statutes Amendment Bill. The deadline for submissions is Friday, 29 January 2016.

Statutes Amendment Bills are routinely introduced throughout each parliamentary term. They are made-up entirely of amendments to existing laws. Because they change multiple laws (rather than one law) they are called ‘omnibus bills’.

The changes in a Statutes Amendment Bill should only be technical, short, and non-controversial in nature, without any significant policy implications. The Government Administration Committee will scrutinise the current Statutes Amendment Bill closely to ensure that this is the case. The committee invites the views of the public to assist it in this scrutiny.

The bill seeks to make changes to various pieces of legislation, including:

• Accident Compensation Act 2001

• Charities Act 2005

• Children, Young Persons, and Their Families Act 1989

• Conservation Act 1987

• Crown Entities Act 2004

• Misuse of Drugs Act 1975

• Public Finance Act 1989

• Sentencing Act 2002

• Victims’ Orders Against Violent Offenders Act 2014

• Vulnerable Children Act 2014

• Wildlife Act 1953

If you would like to have your say on the Statutes Amendment Bill, you can make a submission on the Parliament website, or you can send your submission via email or post to:
