If There is a Surplus, Why the Constant Pain in NZ?
The government’s crowing about a $1.8 billion surplus might satisfy some of the country’s big earners, but most Kiwis will be saying, “So what? We’re still struggling,” says New Zealand First Leader and Northland Member of Parliament Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“This is an out of touch government, creating fiction to get favourable headlines.
“If the money is there as the government states, why isn’t some of it going to help the struggling hospitals around the country, the grossly under-resourced police, and to alleviate problems they have created with massive immigration and a lack of housing supply.
“Where's the money for education and biosecurity? Why are DHBs being forced to cut costs? Why are our roads congested and struggling to cope?
“Police can't stop drugs and this government can't even roll out more frontline cops,” Mr Peters says.
