Greens Call On Government To Halt Changes To Early Childhood Education
The Green Party is calling for the Government to prioritise the needs of our tamariki over private interest in its review of Early Childhood Education (ECE).
“Every child deserves the best possible start in life, we cannot afford to place their future in the hands of companies with more interest in profit than the wellbeing of our tamariki,” says the Green Party’s spokesperson for Early Childhood Education Benjamin Doyle (they/them).
“This review is the latest example of this Government putting private interests before public good and the well-being of our communities.
“What parents and teachers want is high-quality and accessible ECE, delivered by qualified teachers, which prioritises the safety of their children. We heard this loud and clear during the submissions process for this review.
“What the Government is doing cuts completely against the grain of what the community is calling for. These changes could result in the relaxation of teacher qualifications and the removal of some strict requirements to report on children’s wellbeing and safety.
“The further commercialisation of the ECE sector will not benefit our tamariki, we deserve better and we must demand better,” says Benjamin Doyle.
