UNITED CONFERENCE A RESOUNDING SUCCESS

United New Zealand’s annual conference, held at Ellerslie during the weekend, has been overwhelmingly successful according to party leader, Hon Peter Dunne.

“The latest polls showing us ahead of where we finished last election and the dawning realisation of the wider electorate that a balanced party such as ours is necessary for sane sensible government saw a buoyant lively meeting,” Mr Dunne said today.

“Our guest speakers, Sir Paul Reeves and Dr Rajen Prasad both reinforced to the conference the need for social, as well as economic growth in New Zealand. The message to the delegates was that it is our responsibility to ensure a growing multicultural New Zealand must allow all people to reach their full potential.

“We are very confident of achieving the first two of our goals – to have Peter Dunne win Ohariu- Belmont and to gain around 370 list votes per electorate to enable the second United New Zealand member into the next Parliament. Our goal now is to build on this start with the aim of having five or six MPs after the next election.

“The message from the conference was clear – we need United to offer the balance in the next parliament between the extremes on both the left and the right of Parliament.

“A choice between a handful of Winston Peters, Tau Henares or Peter Dunnes is clear for those seeking stable sensible progressive government.”
