August - registrations close for the fifth meeting of the
Asia-Pacific Military Operations Research Symposium (AMORS)
which will be held in Wellington from 7 to 9 November. If
you would like to go and meet with defence and defence
related personnel who are active users or managers of OR/OA
applications in the solution of military problems; defence
planners and defence policy officials who deal with force
development, capability planning and resource allocation
decisions; defence force officers who are involved in force
planning activities or defence academics who may be focussed
on force structure and resource allocation issues using
OR/OA techniques then this is the conference for you. The
theme for AMORS V will be ‘Operational Research: An
Indispensable Partner for Meeting Asia Pacific Security

NATIONAL *** ~ 25 to 27 August - ECO national conference,
‘Strategies for Environmental Gains’, to be held at Tahuna
Beach, Nelson. ECO's 2000 conference is ~
26 August to January 2001 - The Parihaka Exhibition,
Wellington City Gallery - the collaborative project
initiated by the City Gallery, Wellington, and the people of
Parihaka Pä, Taranaki ... it explores and illuminates the
cultural realities of both Mäori and Päkehä. It also brings
to public attention one of the darkest moments in New
Zealand's history: the invasion of Parihaka Pä by colonial
forces on 5 November 1881, and the imprisonment to exile of
its people, in an attempt to crush the heart of Mäori
independence. The Parihaka exhibition gathers together some
of the greatest art works produced in this country in the
last few decades. There is a programme of free public events
