Government R&D Support - More Bureaucrats for Your Dollar
"It's the ultimate insult to New Zealand business owners" says Libertarianz Leader Peter Cresswell, commenting on the recently launched Grants for Private Sector Research and Development - GPSRD. "Government promises to 'pay you to grow your business' plainly ignores the source of the money used to make these payments - it is stolen by government from the very businesses that the scheme seeks to develop!"
"It is immmediately apparent that the only industry guaranteed to enjoy strong growth with this scheme is that of bureaucrats, agents, and consultants to complete the multitude of application forms, and the written reports on the progress of projects," says Cresswell. No less than 26 GPSRD 'agents' are already listed on the Technology Web Site.
"It's obvious that the government does not understand how businesses operate in New Zealand. Responding to both local and export market requirements requires speed, focus, and the best use of available resources. The best thing the politicians and bureaucrats at FoRST can do is allow companies do just that - to keep their earnings to use as they see fit. The very last thing pressured business owners need is more paperwork, or a government money-laundering system that takes weeks to process any applications before the chance return of a shrunken R&D dollar."
