RESPONSES TO THE “SAME SEX COUPLES
AND THE LAW”:
A RESOUNDING VOTE FOR FAMILY LIFE
Party Leader Graham Capill has heralded the responses to the Government’s discussion paper “Same Sex Couples and the Law” as a “victory for the traditional family unit”.
Mr Capill said, “This discussion paper was loaded with assumptions that the law would be changed. The public has seen through this and 80% of the 4000 submissions have rejected homosexual marriage and the adoption of children into such domestic arrangements.
“The public is concerned about children. Biologically, God has created children in the context of having both a mother and a father. Intuitively we know it is wrong to deliberately raise children with two mothers or two fathers. Such dysfunctional arrangements fail to make the interests of the children paramount.
“Associate Minister of Justice, Margaret Wilson, cannot escape the clear message by saying the paper was instigated by National. Both National and Labour should stop pushing homosexual rights on the nation which is tired of politically correct liberal initiatives.
“Labour is trying to have its cake and eat it. If they did not think the study had merit or weight, why did they waste taxpayers’ time and funds continuing with it? No doubt they would have used it to herald new legislation if the findings had been the other way round.
The Christian Heritage Party will
actively campaign against any attempt to introduce
legislation that permits homosexual couples to adopt
children. We think that public opinion is strongly against
such arrangements and the opposition is likely to be as
militant as the fight
against the Homosexual Law Reform
Bill in 1986. It is time we stood up for what is best for
our children: they need a father and a mother,” Mr Capill
concluded.
