ALRANZ: CHP Bereft of Reproductive and Sexual Health Expertise

"ALRANZ regards the recent Christian Heritage Party media statement on the "True Love Waits" fear-based sexuality "education" seminars as interference in matters that do not concern their organisation." said Craig Young, Research Officer for the Abortion Law Reform Association of New Zealand today.

"Under Section 105C of the Education Act, schools should consult with parents, and children should be exempted. However, we regard this as an inadequate safeguard against inaccurate misinformation about important issues such as condoms, male responsibility for the welfare of one's sexual partner, and prevention of unwanted pregnancies and STDs."

"The Christian Heritage Party admitted that it lacked professional participants from the conservative Christian communities after its resounding electoral defeat last year. One must therefore ask why it feels that it has to comment on matters beyond its competence. One hopes the Ministries of Health and Education take this opportunity to insure that only accurate reproductive and sexual health curricula, based on proven clinical data that is generalisable, are permitted within state secondary schools." concluded Mr.Young
