"Education Is Dead"

SPEECH PRESENTED TO CPA(Concerned Parents Assoc.)
at St. Pauls Collegiate School Hall
by Party Leader Ross Paterson.

Ladies and Gentlemen. I am hear to announce the death of education. Long may she serve as a reminder that the mind is contemptible to the power of the bureaucrat.

In 19th Century USA there was no public education. Well no "free" public education anyway. People sent their children to private schools. Yes, there's that evil word again. Private. The word that when mentioned now seems to rank you somewhere between a mugger holding a pistol to your head and satan himself. Parents paid for their childrens education upfront(no illusionment of free education through high taxes). They knew exactly what they paid and demanded the particular subjects their children be educated in. Is it any coincidence then that 19th Century USA would be the most prosperous and creative era of US history?

I believe New Zealand and the rest of the world are losing their grip on education because of their obsession with free education. In New Zealand children are forced to go to school.

Education is no longer something to enlighten one's mind but to keep the fierce reprimanding hand of government off our backsides. Those children that do go to school and university go there to gain a licence to print money from the government. A licence they are soon forced to hide from the government for fear of being unjustly persecuted by the government that calls them "fat cats".

Let us evaluate what education is. Education is intended to mature the mind. Education provides us with the knowledge we must then carry on however we see fit in the future.

I am proud to say that the New Zealand Liberation Party supports the destruction of the public "education" system.

The public school system unilaterally teaches every student the same thing. The public school system always cares for the collective and never the individual.

What happens if I think that my children should learn the values of Christ or even Buddha in accordance with my culture, the culture I grew up with. The public schools would denounce me as a heretic to education just because I wanted to dictate what morals my child should be taught. The truth is parents have little say in their childrens upbringing, in that respect the state is supreme.

And we wonder what happened to morals all of a sudden.

The public education system is a system designed to make every single student in New Zealand think along exactly the same lines. It discourages creativity and punishes new ideas.

Athens, the people of Athens never used free education. They are one of the most cultured peoples in the history of man. Their ideas and philosophy laid the foundation for democracy and peace.

Sparta, which existed in the same time frame, promoted free public education. Their society is now recognised as the earliest known facist state.

Education is different for every person. Private education will see a revitalisation of interest in education. Children won't be forced to school. They will go by choice. To learn.

A schooling system that does not punish differing forms of education. No NZQA, no National Framework. You, the parent, decide what your child should be subject to. This will ensue much more enthusiasm from children as they learn areas of interest and of practical future use to them.

It is this policy that will fully develop the child’s mind as education was originally meant for.

And yes, you will have to pay a bill. But it will be nothing like the bill you pay to public or private education now. Public schools will now be in direct competition with private schools. This will lower prices and increase standards. That's what competition does.

As well as this the New Zealand Liberation Party will announce a huge tax cut for working families a year before introducing the liberalisation of the education sector. This shall allow an easy transition into the realm where parents and students now dictate what they want and not some bureaucrat.

If you vote any other political party you are prescribing aspirin to a nation suffering a bad cough, when what the nation really needs is cough medicine.
