Sovereignty: "Yes Please!"
"I welcome the call for 'sovereignty', directed at the Prime Minister by Maori activists," says Libertarianz Spokesman Russell Watkins. "Indeed sovereignty i.e.; self- government, is exactly what all individuals in a free society - and not just Maori - have a right to. In fact, it should be enshrined and protected constitutionally as the purpose of good government."
"Individual sovereignty means the right to live in the fashion one chooses," reminds Watkins, "to own property and dispose of it in what ever way the owner wishes; to injest what ever one chooses to injest; and to educate their children in what ever it is they want their children to learn. It is taking responsibility for one's own life."
"Maori most of all need sovereignty, to unlock the shackles that chain so many of them to the state," he says. "The Treaty of Waitangi can't and never will give Maori their birth-right to run their own lives, and to pursue their own interests. Constitutional protection, which all New Zealanders should share, will."
"Self-government has only two provisos: others have the same rights and you, and you can't force others to pay for your life," concludes Watkins. "The government must stop treating Maori like children and let them run their own lives."
The Libertarianz Party will abolish the Treaty of Waitangi and replace it with a constitution - which can be found on this web site: http://www.libertarianz.org.nz
