Conference This Weekend
New Zealand’s ethnic communities will meet this weekend to discuss their experiences, needs, hopes and aspirations. The New Zealand Federation of Ethnic Councils is holding its National Conference from this Friday 9th March to Sunday 11th March.
"This will be an important opportunity for those working with migrants and those who come into contact with members of New Zealand’s ethnic communities to share their vision for the future," said Dr Rasalingam, a member of the Organising Committee.
The Conference, hosted by the Auckland Regional Ethnic Council, takes place at the Study Centre, Massey University, Albany, Auckland.
The conference theme is Vibrant Voices & Visions for Ethnic New Zealand. Matters for discussion include employment, education, immigration, resettlement, health and housing.
The conference will be officially opened by the Prime Minister, Rt Hon. Helen Clark, at 10.00am on Saturday and it will be closed by the Minister of Ethnic Affairs on Sunday. Key conference speakers include Dr James Jupp, Director of the Centre for Immigration and Multicultural Studies, Australian National University; and Dick Hubbard of Hubbard Foods Ltd. Members of the main political parties will also address the conference.
A Conference Declaration will be issued at the conclusion of the conference.
The public are welcome to register for the Conference at the Study Centre.
