'Benefit Rights' Group Bites The Hand That Feeds

Responding to the so-called 'Benefit Rights Service', who called for a "rights based welfare model where people are acknowledged and supported in their struggle for Tino Rangatiratanga," Libertarianz spokesman Lindsay Mitchell asks: "What about the rights of the tax-payers? What about the rights of employers and employees? Why must their rights play second fiddle to those of beneficiaries?"

Mitchell says the BRS' complaint that "the current targeted welfare system with it's ideology of Benefit dependency, reciprocal obligation and fiscal performance is an insult to human integrity" is itself "an insult to the integrity of every productive New Zealander paying for beneficiaries from their taxes."

"That the BRS find 'reciprocal obligation' abhorrent is rich given their very existence relies on their perception of tax-payer obligation," says Mitchell. "Here is clear evidence that a 'something for nothing' attitude is pervasive."

"Libertarianz strongly urges the Benefits Rights Service to wake up and realise that the so-called 'rights' they demand are not free - they have a cost and that cost is borne by the overburdened taxpayer. They should learn that legitimate rights impose no involuntary cost on others, but that they do impose an obligation on rights' holders -- responsibility."

It's enough to make you vote Libertarianz!
