Trade Liberalisation Network begins

The New Zealand Trade Liberalisation Network begins work today.

The Trade Liberalisation Network (TLN) is an incorporated society led and supported by leading export interests wishing to promote social progress through trade liberalisation.

TLN will promote informed public debate by commissioning research and undertaking education work and will champion the benefits to NZ from trade liberalisation.

“Freeing up trade creates more opportunities and wealth for everyone,” says Stephen Jacobi, TLN Executive Director. “Exporters I’ve worked with over the last fifteen years tell me they need access to overseas markets to help their businesses expand. This creates jobs and helps our economy to grow.”

Stephen Jacobi has a diplomatic and trade background including posts as Deputy High Commissioner in Ottawa, Trade Commissioner in Paris and specialist adviser on trade and diplomatic issues relating to the WTO, the US, Canada, Caribbean and the Middle East. He was most recently Private Secretary to the Minister for Trade Negotiations Hon Jim Sutton.

Stephen Jacobi also has a background of community service and says open trade delivers fairness and prosperity for developing as well as developed countries. “Freeing up trade delivers stronger communities,” Mr Jacobi says. “The experience of the last two decades in numerous countries shows trade liberalisation is a powerful force for good.”
