The BBC IS On Board On The Peace Train
An Update – Saturday 24th November

Over the last day or so, many more registrations from all over the world have been added to the Sing4Peace website including one from BBC radio.

Simon Baldock from BBC Essex says in his registration that he hopes the whole of Essex will take part. He also writes: “Good luck to you all. I have mentioned your website on our radio programme, and hope to encourage the people of Essex to take part.”

As a result of the massive interest, both nationally and internationally, a Communications Centre has been set up in the Selwyn House Technology Block to manage the flow of information and liaison with the media. From singing live on and Auckland radio station to talking about Sing4Peace on a Palmerston North radio show, the girls are also co-ordinating newspaper and television publicity.

There have been more than 1600 visitors to the site since it launched 13 days ago with the average number of visitors increasing steadily to more than 200 a day at present.

The Selwyn House Year 8’s (ages 11-13 years) are able to follow the sing4peace.com traffic thanks to a Statistic Programme written into the website. So far, 71% of the visitors have been from NZ, with a considerable number from the United States, Taiwan, United Kingdom and Australia. There have also been multiple visits from Sweden, Egypt, Finland, Papua New Guinea, France, South Africa and Colombia.

The Selwyn House Year 8 girls are visiting more than 12 schools in ChCh over the next few days (requested by schools) to tell them about Sing4Peace and there are plans to put the hand signs for "Let There Be Peace On Earth" on the website as Christchurch’s Van Asch College (School for the Deaf) plans to register any day now. Signing on takes on a whole new meaning! "Let There Be Peace On Earth" features on the website and is the song Selwyn House suggests people sing on Thursday 29th November – Sing 4 Peace Day. Words and music are available for download from the site on. Talk about interactive! It's fantastic.

The New Zealand schools registered include Aranui High School (ChCh), St James' School (Palmerston North), St Joseph's School (Waitara), Kohimarama School (Auckland), Kutarere School (Opotiki), Solway College (Masterton), Central Normal School (Palmerston North), St Kentigern School, (Auckland) and Kaka Point School. There are far too many to list here but they are all shown on www.sing4peace.com

And the Kiwi’s at Scott Base will be warming up their vocal chords over the next week. The Selwyn House Sing4Peace “Communications Centre” has received a phone call from the ice, with the Kiwis planning to join the registrations to “Sing4Peace” at midday on Thursday 29th November.

The Year 8’s are not slowing down in their efforts to build the registrations to Sing4Peace.com, they are continuing to e-mail schools and organisations in New Zealand and overseas. The girls are also putting the finishing touches to the day itself, which promises some surprises!
