Greedy Businessman Rips Off Starving Artists

Libertarianz deputy leader Richard McGrath described the jailing of former Wellington businessman Richard Zurek for failing to forward PAYE deductions to the Inland Revenue Department as a "disgusting injustice", and said that all laws relating to tax evasion should be repealed - along with taxation itself.

"The money Mr Zurek failed to forward on to the IRD would have supported many of the five thousand or more 'artists' on dole payments, and would have formed part of the compensation payment awarded to the ninety-five children and adolescents tortured at Lake Alice by a government psychiatrist," said Dr McGrath. "But the real victims of Mr Zurek are his employees, whose paypackets were looted in the first place."

"Mr Zurek had the audacity to try and spend this money on keeping his business afloat and his bills paid. The state is now punishing him, his employees and his creditors, for failing to fund both the unemployed artists and the victims of state inquisitor Dr Selwyn Leeks.

"Taxpayers should heed the lesson from Mr Zurek's incarceration," McGrath added. "The needs of the Colin McCahon wannabes take precedence over the needs of Mr Zurek and his employees. And the ninety-five people tortured by Dr Leeks should, of course be compensated by people such as Mr Zurek, not by Dr Leeks."

Dr McGrath described the jailing of Mr Zurek as "utterly tragic", and observed that under a constitution, such as that proposed by Libertarianz, there would be no IRD, and no ratchetting of income tax rates up and down. "We advocate the abolition of taxation, in keeping with our other policies which encourage individual effort. We would stop all payments to the five thousand parasites who have made an 'art form' out of dole-bludging."
