Non-payment of Court Ordered Reparations

Non-payment of Court Ordered Reparations

More than 30,000 New Zealand victims of Crime are owed $38 million of Court Ordered Reparations to be paid by criminals.

Grey Power Law and Order Spokesperson, Terry Hawkey, says that this situation is absolutely unacceptable. In many cases, victims need the payments to help them deal with the trauma they have, and are, facing. If this had not been the case, then surely the courts would not have ordered the reparation payments.

There have been occasions where victims have had to take legal action themselves to obtain payment.

Criminals in many cases, consider the court orders a joke and have completely ignored them.

Grey Power calls on the Government to initiate immediate action to ensure that reparation is paid by criminals as ordered by the courts.

It must be the responsibility of the courts to make certain that the payments are made, and if they are not made, then to take whatever action is needed to ensure reparation is made.

We look forward to the Government's urgent action in addressing this problem
