New General Manager For Ministry Of Tourism
5 April 2002
Ray Salter has been appointed General Manager of the Ministry of Tourism.
Announcing the appointment, Ministry of Economic Development Chief Executive Geoff Dangerfield said Mr Salter had a wealth of management and policy advisory experience.
“Mr Salter has held a variety of senior roles in the Ministry for the Environment, and is a member of the executive management group responsible for overall strategic management of the Ministry. He has wide experience of advising successive governments on complex policy issues such as genetic modification, resource management and the environmental role of regional councils,” Mr Dangerfield said.
“His considerable experience will ensure the Ministry of Tourism effectively leads policy development across government on key tourism issues. Tourism issues relating to conservation, Maori and economic development will be key priorities. The tourism industry is New Zealand’s largest earner of foreign exchange and there is scope for further growth, so the quality of the Ministry’s advice is critical,” Mr Dangerfield said.
Mr Salter holds an MSc(Hons) from Waikato University and a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University’s J F Kennedy School of Government.
