Cloning News – Apparently Scientifically Possible But Morally Reprehensible

Party Leader Graham Capill has condemned the actions of the Italian fertility specialist who claims to have successfully used cloning technology to bring about a pregnancy.

Mr Capill said, “Such a development is an attack on the integrity and unique nature of human life. While it would appear that such developments are scientifically possible, it is morally irresponsible and, I would suggest, ethically wrong.

“Severino Antinori appears to have put his personal ambition to enter the annals of history before recognising the huge implications for the human race – implications which probably he does not fully understand. He has proceeded on this reckless path, despite knowing that the United Nations set up a panel last year aimed at drafting an international treaty to ban the cloning of human beings.

“Science is not able to predict the long term outcomes and should have remained satisfied with other procedures to deal with problems of infertility.

“New Zealand must now move fast to ban human cloning. CHP believes that every person is a unique individual, endowed with inherent dignity and value, which should not be diminished by scientific endeavour,” Mr Capill concluded.
