Thanks Don
April 26, 2002
Retiring Reserve Bank Governor Don Brash has calmly and assuredly held a major role in New Zealand’s economic development for many years, and he will be missed, probably much more than we realise, Employers & Manufacturers Assoc (Central) chief executive Paul Winter says.
“New Zealanders have enjoyed exceptional monetary stability through two decades, thanks in large part to the cool-headed leadership of Don Brash since 1988.
“Don Brash achieved worldwide respect for the part he has played in the fiscal evolution of New Zealand, particularly his battles to maintain a stable inflation rate.
“New Zealanders love to see their country successfully represented on the world stage, but most would be completely unaware of the high regard New Zealand’s economy, and Don Brash, are held in by the world’s most significant banking, business and political leaders.
“There could not be too many ‘shoes’ in this country more difficult to fill than his,” Mr Winter says.
