"The Labour Party has shown a clear commitment to youth by putting a large number of young people on its Party list today" said Labour Party Youth Vice-President, Alastair Cameron.

The Party's final list includes seven young people, with four having a very real chance of election. "This combined with the fact that Labour has selected six young candidates to contest electorates shows that Labour has real respect for and confidence in its young members", said Cameron. "It also shows that Labour takes the issues of young people seriously and wants MPs in Parliament who understand those issues first hand", he said.

The list committee decided to rank existing MPs first in recognition of the Party's excellent poll ratings. Then comes Moana Mackey, a 28 year old Wellingtonian, at number 41. Louisa Wall, ex-silver fern and black-fern has place 49, Darren Hughes, a 24 year old from Levin who is also candidate for Otaki was put at 51, and Hamish McCrackan, a 29 year old from Auckland, comes in at place 52. "We have high hopes for a good election result to see Moana, Louisa, Darren and Hamish enter Parliament", said Cameron.

The number of young people on the list and as candidates in electorates is a direct result of young Labour Party members building the youth sector over the passed seven years. Cameron said that Young Labour is now well respected within the Party and is listened to at all levels, including in relation to candidate selection.

The final list includes the following young people in the following places:
