Film Festival Censorship Simply Fascist
"The banning of the films Visitor Q, Baise Moi, and Bully is a jackbooted attempt by book-burning busybodies to control free speech" announced Libertarianz Spokesman on Free Speech Scott Wilson today.
Wilson notes that Visitor Q, Baise Moi, and Bully have now been banned, pending decisions from the Film and Literature Board of Review despite none of these films apparently recording any actual criminal acts. As long as there is not actual rape, sexual or other assault, or murder portrayed in the films, says Wilson, he sees no reason for any restriction on their release. "Adults should be free to act out whatever behaviours they wish, no matter how offensive they may seem to many people, as long as all involved parties are consenting" he declared.
"The Society for the Promotion of Community Standards and its bedfellows, the Christian Heritage Party, almost certainly have not seen any of the films they are upset about. Neither have I! The Bible is full of violence, rape, incest, and murder, so how dare they judge the tastes and interests of others to be something that should be banned? I'm not in a position to personally judge whether any of the three films has any aesthetic or cultural merit in themselves, and neither is that of any importance in this issue; it is a matter of individual taste, and not a matter for the state."
"Libertarianz would repeal all laws that prohibit or restrict access to films that do not portray actual violence, sexual or otherwise, against any individuals. If no sex crime or crime of violence has been committed in the making of a film, it will be freely available to all" Wilson concluded.
It's enough to make you vote Libertarianz!
