What's in the BUDGET for research and innovation?
The Government has announced its 2002/03 Budget today. It includes some significant new investments in research, science and technology.
One of the key interest areas is a $9.7 million boost to public-private research and development partnerships. The increased funding will go toward implementing research consortia and to support and encourage firms with innovative ideas.
There's also a $5 million increase in basic research to build New Zealand's knowledge base and a similar rise for system enhancements (that will include development of a biotechnology strategy as part of the Government's response to the Royal Commission on GM).
Attached is a link to an information pack. Here you will also find details of an extra $20.85 million of new money invested in RS&T in 2002/03.
