More Power to IRD Tax Enforcers Questioned
The government has dedicated $125 million to the IRD for the purpose of getting $440 million more tax from businesses. (Budget 2002) Christian Heritage would like to know how the government intends to apply the $125 million extra tax enforcement money without imposing unnecessary anxiety, time, and accounting costs on honest business folk already struggling with the existing taxation compliance regime.
A government talking about business growth and reducing tax compliance costs needs to explain how this extra tax extraction is going to be good for business!
The budget statement that more would be available for social services would be a nonsense if more tax enforcement activity was the last straw that sent more workers into the unemployment ranks.
