Electoral Rolls Close In Two Weeks
11 June 2002
Time is running out for electors to enrol or update their details on the electoral rolls for this year's general election, with the rolls closing for printing on Writ Day, Tuesday 25 June.
Electoral Enrolment Centre National Manager Murray Wicks said there are still many electors yet to enrol so they can vote in the general election.
"To date there are 2.5 million people enrolled, compared to 2.1 million at the same stage in the 1999 enrolment campaign. While this is a pleasing increase, there are still 250,000 people that need to fill in a new enrolment form by Tuesday 25 June to be included on the printed roll.
"It's easy to put things off until the last minute but in this case I urge all those still to enrol or update their details to do so now to ensure they are eligible to vote in the election," Mr Wicks said.
"People who enrol by 25 June will receive an EasyVote pack from the Chief Electoral Officer before the election. This pack will contain information on voting and an EasyVote card that will make the voting process much easier."
Enrolment update forms were sent to all registered electors in early May, with people only needing to return them if their details needed updating. Anyone who didn't receive a pack will need to fill in a new enrolment form.
Enrolment forms are available from PostShops, public libraries and council offices, by calling 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56) or from the elections website www.elections.org.nz.
Mr Wicks said that eligible electors can also check and update their enrolment details, and enrol online.
