Chicken to make surprise Appearance in Wigram

Alliance candidate for Wigram Sean Gourley will today be appearing with a 6ft tall chicken, representative of Jim Anderton, outside Barrington Mall, on Barrington Street at 4pm. This action is in direct response to Mr Anderton’s recent refusal to accept the challenge of a head to head debate laid down Mr Gourley.

“Jim’s refusal to accept my challenge to a public debate can only mean one thing, that his actions over the last 6 months have damaged his integrity to the point where he is simply too chicken to front up to an intellectual debte” Said Sean Gourley, 23.

When asked if Anderton’s refusal was a surprise, Gourley replied

“Jim has always stated his willingness to debate key issues with anyone, anywhere, anytime. But his refusal this election is no real surprise, the whole waka jumping incident has left him with egg all over his face.”

The chicken affectionately named Crackers had been put out to roost since the 1998 Taranaki-King Country by-election, however Alliance President Matt McCarten last night ordered Crackers to make the long flight from Auckland to Christchurch to peck away at Jim Anderton.

“However, this is not a yolk,” Gourley said. “The chicken metaphor is particularly significant for Mr Anderton, as he is also too chicken to stand by his principles in key policy areas,” said Gourley.

“His policy of only a poultry one year of free tertiary education is chicken feed when compared with the current student debt of over five Billion dollars,” said Gourley.

Only the Alliance party is offering a fully funded tertiary system and non parental-means tested student allowances.

At 23 Gourley is the new hope of the Alliance party, “It’s time old chickens were carved up and new faces came to roost in Wigram,” said Gourley.
