*** INTERNATIONAL ***

~ 11 September - peace groups around the world respond to the call from Peaceful Tomorrows for events which honour the universality of grief and the hope for a peaceful world, more than 170 events are now organised in various countries overseas. For what’s happening here, see 11 September local listings below for Wellington (two events) and Lyttelton; and 8 September for Auckland.

~ 5 to 7 October - Pine Gap Protest! desert camp - national convergence on Pine Gap - major days of action being planned now - workshops - creative actions - music - give the land back to the Arrernte people! Pine Gap is a military spy base for the United States, it is located at Alice Springs, Northern Territory, Australia. It has been there since the 1960s and has played a major role in many US military operations (including the Gulf War and the current 'War on Terror'). "It will be an integral part of the proposed US star wars system enabling the US to dominate and control space. Its very existence on Australian soil makes us complicit in the military strikes of America and makes us a nuclear target. We don't want it. Help us expose it and shut it down this October." For more info check out http://www.foe.org.au/nc/nc_pine.htm

~ anytime - you can report suspected terrorists to the FBI on-line at https://www.ifccfbi.gov/complaint/terrorist.asp George Bush and Tony Blair spring immediately to mind as possibilities, for their various acts of terror against the people of Afghanistan and Iraq (both for ongoing terrorist activities, as well as plans for future terrorist acts). If you want some ideas about specific crimes they should be charged with, check out ‘Wellington People's Court finds warmongering governments guilty of violations of international law’ at http://www.converge.org.nz/pma/cra0011.htm For information about the effects of their crimes, you could look at some of the articles listed on the index pages at http://www.converge.org.nz/pma/usatresp.htm or http://www.converge.org.nz/pma/iraqa.htm As you may be daunted by the enormity of the evidence against them, for a succinct summary you could look at 'The great charade' at http://www.converge.org.nz/pma/cra0671.htm or 'Not in our name' at http://www.converge.org.nz/pma/cra0312.htm ...
