Parents Centre votes to support full labelling of all food products
Delegates at the
Parents Centre 50th anniversary conference, being held in
Wellington this weekend, voted to support the full labelling
of all food products.
“The vote recognises the right of parents to know what they are buying, and to make informed decision about their children’s diet” said Parents Centre Chief Executive Sue Fitzmaurice.
“This vote is not about supporting a ban on genetically engineered food nor is it about favouring organically grown food, it is about being about to decide what we want to eat, and what we want to feed our families.”
“It is also about informed decision-making and the need to develop transparent labelling regimes so that we know what we are buying. It is a simple matter of having the right to choose,” said Sue Fitzmaurice.
Parents Centre is a long-standing advocate for family friendly communities and provider of antenatal and parent education. It is a not-for-profit organisation that currently supports and educates more than 8,000 members through 54 centres around New Zealand.
