Veto On NCEA Pilots Till Sec Settlement
“Teachers affected by the Degree equivalence issue will veto the NCEA level II pilots till the Government announces they will get equal pay, ” Martin Cooney, spokesperson for the September 20 group said today. “Schools require total consensus to proceed with the NCEA and our Committee is asking teachers to refuse to give their approval.”
Mr Cooney noted that the recent PPTA Conference passed the following resolution: That a decision by any school or department to take part in the pilot programme be made by consensus following a branch meeting ….”
“Our aim this week is a school by school veto on any work on NCEA level II,” said Mr Cooney.
“Teachers have been asked to attend their school’s PPTA branch and staff and department meetings (this week and/or next week) and state that they are not agreeing (ie no consensus) till (1) the Government announces that G3= teachers will receive our pay rise on 5 February and (2) PPTA recognises the need to restore G1/G2 relativity.”
“A year ago 70% of teachers in a national ballot decided ‘that PPTA members take no further action in implementing the NCEA until the STCA is settled.’ Degree equivalent teachers still do not have a settled STCA, so it is appropriate to veto implementation.”
“Parents sick of the longlasting disruption can email Mr Mallard at mailto: mailto:tmallard@ministers.govt.nz, ” said Mr Cooney.
