Vehicle registrations up for January
Vehicle registrations for January were up nearly 11 percent on last year, according to figures released today by the Land Transport Safety Authority. There were 22,443 first-time registrations of new and used imported vehicles this January, compared with 20,232 in January 2002 - an increase of 10.9 percent.
Total first-time car registrations were up 9.1 percent, from 16,249 in January 2002 to 17,725 last month. New car registrations were up 13.9 percent from 5,015 to 5,711 while used import registrations rose 6.9 percent from 11,234 to 12,014.
The market share leader for new car registrations last month was Holden with 19.1 percent, ahead of Ford with 15.0 percent and Toyota with 12.3 percent.
The three most popular new car models for the month were the Holden Commodore, Ford Falcon and Toyota Corolla.
Truck registrations for January were up 32.0 percent, from 1,652 in January 2002 to 2,180 this year.
Trailer registrations were up 6.8 percent, from 1,301 to 1,390 while motorcycle registrations (over 60cc) jumped 18.0 percent, from 433 to 511.
Tractor registrations fell
slightly from 190 to 183, while bus registrations dropped
from 115 to 103.
