Union Direct Action On Rrs Closure

Union Direct Action On Rrs Closure

“Our Union’s members are to commence direct action from this Friday in response to the CDHB closing the Residential Rehabilitation Service (RRS),” said Nadine Marshall, Secretary of the National Union of Public Employees (NUPE) today.

“At a multi union meeting tonight a campaign to stop contracting out of services was endorsed,” said Nadine Marshall. “In addition NUPE union members supported direct action beginning this Friday with the goal of forcing a u-turn on the Board.”

“The response from the Board does not alleviate our concerns around the consultation process nor for safety of staff and patients,” said Nadine Marshall.

Nadine Marshall said the full details of the action would be reported to members over the next two days but the first direct action would begin on Friday.

“Legal advice is also being sought to stop the Board beginning to implement its decision to axe the RRS service”, said Nadine Marshall. For more information contact: Nadine Marshall, NUPE Secretary on (021) 689 733 Or (03) 377 3582
