Student Initiates UNITEC GE Rally For Friday
Teena Enoka, a student of UNITEC studying a Diploma of Sustainable Horticulture, is initiating a campus wide student rally on Friday 10th October to support the continuation of the moratorium. "My peers and I have started an organic club on campus and one of our aims is to ensure the moratorium is maintained." She said.
The most important result from this rally is to raise awareness of the GE FREE NZ march the following day Saturday 11th October on Queen St, Auckland and ultimately a strong student support for the big march on Saturday. "We want the government to delay the lifting of the moratorium for at least 5 years. Our campus is an Eco-Campus and we would like it to stay that way!"
We have invited Ella Henry; Head of School Puukenga [UNITEC], Malcolm Rands of Ecostore, Brendan Hoare of Organic Federation of NZ [and lecturer at UNITEC] and Steven Able of Greenpeace NZ to share their knowledge of the G.E issue. Organic businesses; The Organic Soy Company, Ceres Organic Enterprises, Phoenix Organics have generously donated the club some of their products to share among the students at the rally.
"My peers and I would like to challenge and encourage other campus' throughout NZ to stand-up for their future NOW, by doing the same.
