Executive Resigns After 31 Years In Public Service
Child, Youth and Family Chief Executive Jackie Pivac says her decision to resign today was extremely difficult.
Ms Pivac tendered her resignation to the State Services Commissioner, Michael Wintringham, after 31 years in the public service.
“It has been a very difficult decision because of the respect and admiration I have for the people that I work with and for the job that they do, “Ms Pivac said.
“I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to do such an important job over the last four years and am very proud of some of the Department’s achievements.”
Ms Pivac said she had decided not to wait until her contract ends in September next year because she felt the time was now right to let someone else lead the Department.
“I believe that there is a 3-5 year intensive change programme ahead of the Department. After some long deliberations, I have decided that the changes should be started by the same person who will be here to see them through.”
She said Child, Youth and Family was doing some excellent work for children and their families and she was confident in the Department moving forward.
“There are very quiet success stories that go on every day, largely unheralded, as a result of the excellent work that happens on the frontline. One of the highlights of the job to me has been talking to some of the young people whose lives have been turned around by the work we have done.”
Ms Pivac said she felt very
proud of some of the changes implemented during the past
four years, including the New Directions work which
addressed the recommendations made by former Principal Youth
Court Judge Mick Brown.
Ms Pivac said she would continue as Chief Executive for as long as she was needed.
“I will be going on leave and I will be agreeing with the State Services Commissioner when I get back on a date for my departure.”
