ATSE Promote Mediocrity

ATSE Promote Mediocrity

"The Association of Staff in Tertiary Education (ATSE) must be a pretty desperate bunch," said Peter Osborne, Libertarianz Spokesman for Education Deregulation, in response to news that the ATSE have lifted planned strike action scheduled for this week in favour of further mediation.

Osborne says, "I cannot believe that the ATSE is representative of all who work in the tertiary education sector. They can't all be so devoid of self-respect as to allow some lackey in the ATSE hierarchy to do their bidding for them. I can understand it for those sorry souls who may be incompetent in their work, but those who are genuinely passionate about their work and can prove their worth with real results must surely wonder why they are being heaped in with all and sundry."

"Is it that the competent tutors and teachers have all departed from the industry in frustration? Or is it that they have been hijacked by bureaucratic thuggery and have been gagged? Either way, this method of negotiation is a sure fire recipe for disaster." Osborne states.

"No one stands to gain out of this circus except those in the ATSE hierarchy and those tutors who are crap at their jobs. Any competent tutors that remain in the industry will only find themselves with employment packages equal to those who should really seek employment elsewhere. The employers at the polytechnics and technical institutes will find themselves starved for choice, and will have no option but to pay substandard workers more than they are probably worth. This archaic system is already rubbing off on the pupils, with many employers looking to these institutions for new staff and struggling to find anyone competent."

Mr Osborne notes, "These negotiations have been going on since January - quite telling in itself, really. I can guarantee that when a conclusion is finally met that there will still be much dissatisfaction, among employees especially. But what's that to the ATSE? They get to keep their jobs for the next round of negotiations, after all."

"Libertarianz will put an end to subsidised thuggery, especially when those doing the subsidising are the tax victims of New Zealand. We will release all educational institutions from the shackles of the state. Education providers will be free to negotiate with whomever wishes to negotiate with them. The PC claptrap currently being forced upon New Zealand's young minds would soon be done away with, as those who wish to force their delusional ideas on everyone will no longer have the backing of the State. The dweebs at the ATSE will have to seek employment elsewhere, but who would employ them, I don't know!" Osborne concluded.
