Vehicle registrations up 15 percent for
December
Vehicle registrations for December 2003 were up 14.8 percent from the previous year, according to figures from the Land Transport Safety Authority.
There were 26,198 first-time registrations of new and used imported vehicles in December 2003, compared with 22,823 in December 2002.
Total first-time car registrations were up 12.9 percent, from 16,889 in December 2002 to 19,068 last month. New car registrations jumped 26.0 percent, from 4,814 to 6,065, while used import registrations rose 7.7 percent from 12,075 to 13,003.
The market share leader for new car registrations last month was Toyota with 21.1 percent, ahead of Holden with 15.7 percent, and Ford with 14.3 percent.
The three most popular new car models for the month were the Holden VY2 Commodore, Toyota Corolla and Ford Falcon.
Truck registrations were up 17.8 percent, from 2,161 in
December 2002 to 2,545 last month. Trailer registrations
rose 16.9 percent, from 2,555 to 2,988 while motorcycle
registrations (over 60cc) rose from 404 to 632. Tractor
registrations fell from 291 to 253, while bus registrations
were down from 99 to
