Fun Police Strike Again on Instant Kiwis
"The new restrictions on Instant Kiwi sales are childish and create another victimless crime by teaching young people that they are incapable of being responsible," announced Libertarianz Leader Bernard Darnton today.
"Not being able to even buy an Instant Kiwi for someone under 18 is an absurd criminal law. There is no victim, and hence should be no criminal. Is it really better to make Instant Kiwi some forbidden fruit that teenagers do on the sly? Is it really better to prosecute the occasional unwary retailer or adult for supplying lottery tickets? Can't we just let well alone, and remind ALL people that they own their lives and are responsible for their own money," Darnton explained.
"Libertarianz believes that the State is not a substitute parent and that stupid laws on selling Instant Kiwis should be abolished. There is no reason to assume 16yos are more likely to spend their money stupidly on Instant Kiwis than to spend it on food, clothes or anything else".
"Helen Clark, Jim Anderton, Sue Kedgley and the other joyless busybodies that want to ban fun should just leave people alone and focus on real crimes like murder, rape, theft and fraud," Darnton concluded.
