3,000 Voters Missing From Te Tai Hauauru Electoral Roll

Nearly 3,000 eligible voters may miss out on voting in the Te Tai Hauauru by-election because their address has changed and they haven't updated their enrolment details.

Te Tai Hauauru Registrar of Electors Helen Johnson said that over 26,000 voters on the Te Tai Hauauru electoral roll were sent information about the Tuhono Maori Affiliation Service in April and May.

From those mailouts, almost 1,700 people had their mail returned 'Gone, no address' and were removed from the electoral roll.

An additional 1,400 voters had already been removed from the Te Tai Hauauru electoral roll as a result of not updating their details after they had moved house.

"Some of these people have since re-enrolled, however almost 3,000 still need to complete a new enrolment form to have their name reinstated on the electoral roll. We're concerned as most of these people are probably unaware that they are no longer enrolled," Mrs Johnson said.

"We're urging all eligible voters to check their enrolment details as soon as possible to make sure they are correct."

People can check the electoral rolls at PostShops, public libraries and courthouses in the Te Tai Hauauru electorate or at any Registrar of Electors office.

"They can also check and update their details at www.elections.org.nz and enrol online."

Mrs Johnson said that people whose details are incorrect or who haven't enrolled before should complete an enrolment form.

"Enrolling is quick and simple to do. Enrolment forms are available at PostShops, public libraries and courthouses, by calling 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56) or from the elections website."

The last date that people can enrol or update their details for the by-election is Friday 9 July.
