Voting Starting In By-Election
The Te Tai Hauauru by-election will be held on Saturday 10 July. There will be one hundred polling places set up that day. “But people who can’t get to a polling place can still vote,” says Chief Electoral Officer, David Henry.
People who live in remote areas or people who are infirm or have disabilities can apply for a postal vote now by telephoning freephone 0800 36 76 56 or by telephoning the Returning Officer, Kevin Gunn, on (06) 757 3830.
14 advance voting facilities in Te Tai Hauauru will open from Wednesday 30 June. These are for people who can vote in person but who can’t get to a polling place on 10 July. Locations of advance voting facilities and opening times are available from http://www.elections.org.nz or from freephone 0800 36 76 56.
People overseas can vote by downloading their voting papers from http://www.elections.org.nz and faxing them back to the Chief Electoral Office in Wellington. They can also vote in Australia, London and Washington. Full details are on the website.
The majority
of people will be voting on 10 July. At the beginning of
July they will receive an EasyVote pack, including their
personal EasyVote card to take with them when voting. The
pack will also contain details of all 100 polling places.
