Planned Mass Gathering At Parliament - Enough Is Enough

Destiny Churches New Zealand is coordinating a 'stand en mass' gathering at the grounds of parliament [Wellington] on Monday 23rd August 2004 at 12.30pm.

Pastor Brian Tamaki of Destiny Church is appealing to the religious community of New Zealand to unite and make a stand for family values, the institution of marriage and the wellbeing of children.

"According to census 2001 the religious community made up over 2 million people in our country. The present Government demonstrates time and time again that it has absolutely no regard for the voice of the church and the religious community. Our families are breaking down, the institution of marriage is under unprecedented attack and laws that lower common sense standards of living threaten the future for our children and grandchildren. It's time to make a stand," says Tamaki.

Pastor Tamaki cited the Civil Union Bill, the Care of Children Bill [which provides for girls under 16yrs of age to have an abortion without their parents knowledge], over 18,500 abortions, the lowering of the legal drinking age and the recent Prostitution Bill as examples of political developments that jeopardise the stability and health of society.

"Enough is enough - this is what I am hearing from people across our communities. We can no longer sit back in good conscience while our nation's leaders make careless decisions that impact directly on our children and grandchildren. It is time to make a stand. This is not a hikoi, it is a one-off mass gathering to express our concerns before Parliament," he added.

The message we intend to take to Parliament is simple:

* Value our children and future generations, * Acknowledge God, * Leave parental rights and responsibilities alone, * Uphold our nations founding values and high moral standards, * Esteem families and the institution of marriage, * Stop, talk and listen to the people.

A website has been set up to provide nationwide access to information about the event, www.enough.org.nz . It will be online from midday Friday 2nd July.

The week of 23 August has been confirmed as a normal week at parliament for MPs. On Monday 23rd August, cabinet is confirmed to be sitting. This date was selected to provide maximum travel time for those wishing to attend from around the country and minimum disruption to the working week. Final confirmation of the date will be made next week.

It is expected that with plenty of notice the MPs will make arrangements to attend. While the Prime Minister's office confirmed that she was in the country for that day they would not release information of her itinerary.
