Richmond To Face Rolling Strikes Over Weekend

Richmond Fellowship Workers To Stage Rolling Strikes Over Weekend

National Union of Public Employees (NUPE) members who work for private mental health provider Richmond Fellowship will be staging a series of four-hour stoppages over this coming weekend in support of their campaign for a just and fair collective employment agreement.

“The strike committee met this week and has planned eight stoppages in total between Friday evening and Monday morning” said NUPE organiser John Kerr.

“NUPE has given the employer ample notice to ensure the health and safety of the community and the clients are not jeopardised” said John Kerr.

“Negotiations between the Combined Unions (NUPE and the Service and Food Workers’ Union) and Richmond Fellowship have been going on since before last Christmas yet the employer has made no pay offer! All we are asking for is a collective employment agreement that includes a wage rise for union members with pay rates written into the agreement, something the employer has refused point-blank” said John Kerr.

“NUPE represents around 100 Richmond Fellowship employees, all of whom are working in the Christchurch area. We expect almost all our members will be taking action at some point over the weekend depending on rosters” said John Kerr
