Thanks Banks, but we won’t be striking…

Hubbards workers vote in favour of pay offer

In spite of the support given by Mayor John Banks to the possibility of workers striking at Hubbards Cereal factory in Mangere, the Service & Food Workers' Union (SFWU) are happy to announce that management’s latest offer for a pay increase in renewing the collective agreement between SFWU and Hubbard Foods will be accepted.

It has been reported that Mayor Banks announced, during a recent campaign speech, that Mr Hubbard’s workers would be going on strike over negotiations.

“Although union members are glad to receive Mayor Banks support for a theoretical strike his announcement was a wee bit premature. An agreement has been reached and members ratified it in a vote held yesterday. So, thanks Banks, but workers won’t be striking” said SFWU National Secretary Darien Fenton.

After bargaining for 4 days between Hubbard Foods management and the SFWU a settlement has been reached that union members are happy with.

“SFWU members feel that the offer is fair and we are pleased that bargaining has been concluded without any major hiccups.” says Ms Fenton
