Hadyn Solomon removed from Te Kauhanganui
Te Kaumaarua, the executive of Te Kauhanganui (the Waikato-Tainui tribal parliament) confirmed that today it has removed former Co-Chair Hadyn Solomon from Te Kauhanganui.
Te Kaumaarua Chairman, Kingi Porima, said today’s action follows an independent report into the circumstances relating to the contract between the Waikato Raupatu Lands Trust and Department of Corrections for consultation over the Springhill Prison.
He said the executive invoked the clause in the tribe’s constitution that states Te Kaumaarua has the ability to remove an elected member if he or she acts in a way which brought, or was likely to bring, Te Kauhanganui into disrepute.
“Today’s action followed a robust process and lengthy consideration of matters relating to the Corrections Department contract,” Mr Porima said.
Being removed from Te Kauhanganui automatically disqualifies him from Te Kaumaarua.
Mr Porima said that the board had also resolved to remove Mr Solomon as a director of Tainui Group Holdings, the tribe’s commercial arm.
