Internet Project Launched To Fill Skill Shortages

Local employers, councils and industry leaders from Wellington are being asked for ideas on a new internet initiative being led the Department of Labour.

CVs Online aims to help New Zealand employers find skilled staff by matching skilled migrants around the world with job opportunities here.

The project is part of a wider strategy by the department to ensure the labour force can meet New Zealand’s labour and skill requirements.

“As a country we are competing internationally to attract people with skills which are in high demand due to worldwide shortages,” online programme manager Arron Baker says.

“One way we can make New Zealand more attractive to skilled migrants is by making the whole process easier and offering a ‘one stop shop’ through our offices around the world and a website that links future Kiwis, the migration process, employment and settlement support.”

Meetings to discuss the project begin today in New Plymouth followed by sessions Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin over the next few weeks.

“The key to success means bringing together wide range of information and services currently available and presenting it in a better way,“ Mr Baker added.
