RNZAF Orion Searches For Missing Vessel
Update on Pacific search and rescue operation (4)
A search and rescue operation by Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand continues today.
Latest news since last night’s 11.30pm press release:
An Airforce Orion will resume searching the area at 9am this morning. This mission will concentrate initially on searching for two people who are still missing from a fishing vessel that sunk.
Overnight a vessel rescued four crewmembers from the life raft which was carrying the remaining crewmembers of the vessel that sunk.
Overnight a further vessel was reported missing. The last contact with this vessel was made over 36 hours ago, when it was in the path of Cyclone Olaf. There are seven people on board. The search for this vessel will begin today.
Overnight a commercial vessel reached an American-registered fishing boat, Princess Karlina, that was disabled east of American Samoa. The rescue vessel helped the Princess Kalina get going again, and she is now heading back to Samoa.
The vessel Malinda has reached a fishing
vessel that was in distress with three injured crewmembers
on board. The Malinda is towing this vessel back to Apia.
