Call for papers and commentaries - Vol 11, No 2, September 2005

Media ethics and accountability

Edition editors: Professor Claude-Jean Bertrand, Paris University, and Dr David Robie, School of Communication Studies, Auckland University of Technology.

Articles are sought for publication in the September 2005 edition of Pacific Journalism Review. This themed edition will examine and critique issues of ethics in journalism, the press, radio, television and online news services, and also media accountability systems (MAS), particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. The editors are especially interested in articles or commentaries exploring themes such as:

Media accountability systems (MAS) in the South Pacific with particular reference to the evolution of the Cook Islands, Fiji, PNG and Tongan media councils. The status of MAS in Australia and New Zealand Ethical case studies in the region.

Privacy and the media in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. The use of civil and criminal defamation charges against media in the region. The role and accountability of the media during the attempted coup in Fiji in May 2000, the Bougainville civil war and/or the Solomon Islands ethnic conflict and the subsequent political discourse.

Media accountability and ethics in New Caledonia, Tahiti and Wallis and Futuna. Articles on other topics related to media and journalism theory and practice may also be considered.

The journal has four main sections: research articles, commentaries, forum and reviews.
