Budget: government can only give what it has first taken
The government can only give what it has first taken away; and a government that is big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you’ve got.
“Maxim hopes that tomorrow’s budget will recognise that individuals and families can spend their income more effectively and efficiently than government can. Justice and good sense demand a significant reduction in taxes,” says Maxim Institute Director Bruce Logan.
“The Labour government continues to find more spuriously creative ways to spend our money. It is now involved in nearly all areas of social and commercial life. Civil Society is increasingly being swallowed up by an ever-expanding state, and that diminishes our freedom” says Logan.
“Defence, the maintenance of justice, and investment in infrastructure are the duties of the State and these should receive adequate funding. But spending millions developing new websites is not the role of government—it is a wasteful allocation of citizens’ dollars” says Logan.
“In particular, we hope this years’ budget will benefit the education system by re-allocating funds currently spent on bureaucracy to where it is needed—schools” says Logan.
Labour has few boundaries. They presume they have a right to be involved in every area of society. They think they can pull all the strings because they hold the public purse.
